FOUNDER, CEO
THE EVROSE GROUP
Tony Goncalves is the founder of The Evrose Group, a growth strategy and transformation advisory firm focused on connecting Portugal’s emerging arts, media, and technology sectors with U.S. business opportunities. Leveraging his deep experience in media and technology, he elevates Portuguese businesses on a global scale.
“As a proud, first-generation Portuguese immigrant and business leader, it’s important to me and my family that everyone can rise to the level of their talents and contribute to a country that gives them the freedom to make a better life. Upwardly Global’s mission is close to my heart, and I look forward to furthering my involvement,” said Tony.
With parents who immigrated from Portugal when he was just 4 years old, Tony grew up understanding what it meant to start from scratch in a new country and sacrifice for your children’s future. He is committed to opening more opportunities for immigrants and refugees today and works to ensure that we are a welcoming country, practicing kindness in his own life and work. In 2016, Upwardly Global honored Tony for his principled leadership. He has co-chaired the Gala in subsequent years, speaking eloquently and bravely during years when perceptions of immigrants and refugees were badly harmed and even weaponized.
As founder of The Evrose Group, Tony advises several Portuguese-based companies, including media conglomerate Grupo Impresa on revenue growth, organizational transformation, and streaming. He worked closely with Grupo Impresa, Tribeca Enterprises, and the City of Lisbon to launch Tribeca Festival Lisboa, where he will serve as Executive Producer.
Tony has been at the forefront of the media and entertainment industries’ evolution, pioneering advancements in streaming and driving significant change during complex business integrations. As Chief Revenue Officer at WarnerMedia, he oversaw and grew a $20 billion revenue portfolio and spearheaded the launch of HBO Max. As CEO of Otter Media, he transformed the company from a venture portfolio into a profitable operating entity, creating two unicorns: Crunchyroll and Hello Sunshine. Earlier in his career at DIRECTV, Goncalves excelled as both an operator and strategist, overseeing a $4 billion revenue portfolio and founding the company’s digital products organization. He was later selected to lead the integration of AT&T’s acquisition of DIRECTV.
Tony also mentors through both The Unicorn Factory Lisboa and Iona University’s Hynes Institute.
