“I am the mother of two beautiful daughters. That inspired me to study gender. I wanted to be a change agent.”
Rebecca has a passion for helping women survive and thrive. She has spent her career focused on development and women’s empowerment.
She is also the mother of two beloved teenage girls, whom Rebecca had to leave behind in Ethiopia when she came to the U.S. as a political asylee in 2014. Settling in the D.C. area, she began her American life working retail and admin jobs. After months of working below her pay and experience level, a relative suggested she check out Upwardly Global, and offered to drive her up to New York for an in person meeting. Rebecca agreed and began working with her UpGlo advisor polishing her resume, learning valuable US-specific networking techniques, and (most importantly) building back her self-confidence.
Rebecca is back in her field, working as a program specialist for a refugee resettlement organization near Washington, D.C. and helping others who are navigating the challenges of restarting their lives in the U.S.
