Recruiting Trend Survey: Shift Away from Job Boards

A recent joint survey of more than 450 corporate recruiters reveals that almost half of the companies polled (43%) are pulling their spending from Internet job boards. This data is supported with statement made by Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz who said that she is considering shuttering the company's HotJobs site. According to the survey, the shift away from job boards is a response to current market conditions, which have made more high-value candidates available to companies looking to capitalize on the market's turnaround with strategic hires. Does Diversity Pay? Race, Gender, and the Business Case for Diversity

According to research published in the April issue of the American Sociological Review, workplace diversity is among the most important predictor of a business' sales revenue, customer numbers and profitability. Sociologist Cedric Herring found that companies reporting the highest levels of racial diversity brought in nearly 15 times more sales revenue on average than those with the lowest levels of racial diversity. Upwardly Global Hosted Panel Discussion on Immigrant Contributions to New York's Economy

Upwardly Global, in partnership with LaGuardia Community College, successfully hosted its first panel discussion on April 22 during the 6th Annual Immigrant Heritage Week. The panel, which focused on the topic of immigrant contributions to New York's economy, included key speakers from Sovereign Bank, Fiscal Policy Institute and the Center for an Urban Future. Volunteer Appreciation Party in San Francisco

UpGlo's San Francisco office hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Party during National Volunteer week on Friday, April 24. More than 100 volunteers and guests, as well as 52 jobseekers and alumni enjoyed the the party which had a strong international feel with food from more than 20 countries. Read more here.

Spotlight: Community Development Professional; San Francisco (unable to relocate at this time)

Esayas is a community development professional with experience liaising between government and non governmental agencies to foster economic development in Ethiopia. Esayas has a Bachelor Degree in Sociology and Public Administration from Ethiopia's top ranked university. He has more than eight years experience including managing vendor relationships, project management, budget analysis, and management of small teams. Esayas is seeking a role within a nonprofit in the areas of urban development or fair trade.

Spotlight: Public Policy Management and HealthCare Professional, San Francisco (unable to relocate at this time)

Yee is a public policy manager with experience in public and community health education and expertise in HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases. Yee is orginally from Burma, fluent in English and Burmese, and has a Masters in Public Management from the National University of Singapore. She brings over 24 years of successful project management experience and is seeking a managerial position in a non-profit to apply her background in humanitarian service, public health care, social work, and innovative public policy implementation.

Spotlight: Spotlight: Public Health/Medical Officer - New York (willing to relocate)

Luabeya has nine years of medical experience in hospitals and in HIV & AIDS prevention and management programs. Having working in Botswana, Zambia, and Congo DR, Luabaeya has proven experience in reducing mother to child HIV transmission, and morbidity and mortality rates through proper treatment, prevention, and early diagnosis. He earned the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Lubumbashi and holds a certificate in AIDS Clinical Care from the Botswana-Harvard School of Public Health Partnership, among other related professional development.

Spotlight: Spotlight: Auditor - New York (currently unable to relocate)

Luciene has six years experience in Brazil as an external auditor within a variety of sectors including banking, hospitality, and corporate multinationals. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and was a Certified Public Accountant in Brazil (CPC) and she is now ready to apply her strong attention to detail and financial analysis skills during this time of increased financial accountability and transparency, She is bilingual: Portuguese/English.

Success Stories

Roela, originally from the Philippines, recently began a new position as an Immigration Counselor at Catholic Charities, where she is the first employee of the organization's new Immigration Law Department at Alum Rock in San Jose, CA. Roela brings her 10 years of corporate law experience to her new position. Upwardly Global connected Roela to Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, where she began applying her legal experience and background as an intern, which led to her current role. Roela plans to pursue accreditation with the BIA (Bureau of Immigration Appeals) and will then be able to represent clients before the Immigration Court.

Fariborz and Suzan, husband and wife from Iran, and both physicians, came to Upwardly Global this year, and in less than 3 months have found jobs in the medical field!

Fariborz started his new position in April as a Clinical Research Coordinator with Stanford University's Pediatric Cardiology Department. Fariborz brings his 20 years of experience as a Pediatric Cardiologist and expertise in Echocardiography and Vascular Sonography to his new position. He holds an MD from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran, a Board Certificate in Pediatrics from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and a Board Certificate in Pediatric Cardiology from Iran Medical School.

Suzan started a position as a Clinical Research Coordinator in Stanford University's Dermatology Department. Suzan is a Dermatologist with 7 years of experience as a clinical practitioner practicing surgical and laser procedures in Iran. Suzan's dermatological research has been cited and published in several international journals. She is bilingual in English and Farsi, has an MD from the highest ranked medical school in Iran, and has completed a four-year residency in Dermatology.

Gabriel is an IT Network Engineer and Trainer from Nigeria. He holds a Bachelors degree in Industrial Mathematics and an MCSE Certification. Although he only moved to NYC with his family in late 2008, he is relocating to Syracuse, NY to become a Network Administrator at the new JPMorgan Chase Technology Center. UpGlo is very excited to see our Employer Partner actively recruiting immigrant professional talent and expertise for this new endeavor.

Ana, a business and finance professional from Colombia, has more than seven years of experience in her field, after graduating cum laude from Icesi University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. In her native Colombia she had experience in small business development consulting and in management. Now she is leveraging this financial experience in Latin America to help her new employer, Epana/Vivicor, to expand within this growing market.
