Success Stories
Yaghdan was recently hired as Customer Service Supervisor by Upwardly Global Chicago new employer, Fifth Third Bank. While working with Upwardly Global during his job search, Yaghdan pursued every avenue offered through UpGlo; attending mock interview sessions, working very closely with his mentor and pursuing jobs both inside and outside of our network. All this paid off in record time when Yaghdan did so well in the interview with Fifth Third Bank that he was hired for a higher level position than the one he originally applied for!
Luabeya, one of our newsletter "Spotlights" in our May edition, recently began working as a Case Manager at CAMBA in Brooklyn, NY. Luabeya is a highly experienced public health and medical professional who has experience working in HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention within various countries in southern Africa. Now working in the US, he is expanding his international experience while he pursues US medical certification(s).
Maria-Angela is a classic case of the "overqualified" jobseeker. Maria has very impressive resume starting from being the Valedictorian at one of the top Universities in Colombia, becoming a Professor of Social Services/Mental Health, and finally acquiring a position as the Director of Mission Bogota Project in the Mayor's office in Colombia. Working closely with her Upwardly Global mentor, Maria recognized all her transferable skills and applied to jobs accordingly. Maria began working as a Case Manager with Catholic Charities
Mona's real passion was to go back to what she loved - being a Kindergarten Teacher. With city budgets being cut, teachers without NYC experience have been at a disadvantage. Mona, thinking outside the box, applied to charter schools and gained the opportunity to interview for an Early Childhood education role. The decision process took more than one month; starting with classroom observations, completing paperwork for background checks, and verifying Teaching Assistant Certifications. All this hard work paid off in the end when Milestone Schools extended an offer to Mona, which she gladly accepted.
